Josipdol at Pohorje
1790 – 1870
Founded around 1790 in the forested Pohorje Mountains, the Josefsthal glassworks was part of a wider network of woodland glass factories in Inner Austria. Abundant timber provided fuel and potash for glass production. The workshop produced utilitarian glassware such as bottles, window panes, and household vessels. By the mid-19th century, depletion of nearby forests and changing economic conditions led to its closure. The settlement endured, but the furnace fires were extinguished, leaving only traces of an industry once vital to the region.
